No one likes to think about dying, but planning your estate can help save lives in need.
People may believe they need to have a large estates to make planned gifts – that’s untrue. No estate is too small to consider giving a gift. And as BTRET spends 96 cents of every dollar on the dogs themselves, you’ll know it’s being put to good use.
Don't have a Will? No matter your age, you should have plans in place in case of your passing. Without a Will, the government will be able to control your assets and determine where your money and property goes. With some planning, you can create a simple Will that outlines your wishes.
We hope one of your wishes may be that dogs in need at BTRET benefit at your passing. It's easy to add BTRET in your Will and as beneficiaries to your other accounts.
If you don't have a Will, speak to an attorney about your estate and where you would like your money to go after you pass. It's simple to add a few sentences in your Will naming BTRET as one of your beneficiaries to all or a portion of your assets which can include general monies, a life insurance policy, an IRA or retirement account or even a physical property like a piece of land.
If you already have a Will, ask your attorney to create a Codicil, a document that can add BTRET to your Will without altering your Will otherwise.
When adding BTRET to your will, you can add a dollar or percentage amount to be given upon your passing. If you're unsure what your monetary future holds, it may be better to put a percentage amount. Likewise, you can designate the "rest, residue and remainder" of your estate to BTRET which will ensure others in your Will will get their portions and BTRET will get the remainder.
If you have a life insurance policy, consider making BTRET a beneficiary similar to the way you would in your Will. Speak to your insurance company and request a Change of Beneficiary Form to add BTRET to your policy. Likewise if you have an IRA or retirement account, speak to an administrator of those accounts to add BTRET as a beneficiary.
As an added bonus, gifts you give upon your passing may provide a tax deduction and may reduce the inheritance tax your family members receive upon your passing.
Making a planned gift will guarantee the longevity of BTRET for life. Speak to your attorney today to guarantee the happiness and safety of Boston Terriers for years to come.
